Job Description

The MHT will be responsible for the safety and welfare of the therapeutic community, with emphasis on providing direction and support for residents through their treatment. Also responsible for counseling residents, specifically in the areas of Life Skills Education, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, and Behavior Management.


  • 1st shift hours are from 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with 30 minute break
  • 2nd shift hours are from 3:30 p.m.-12:00 a.m. with 30 minute break
  • 3rd shift hours are from 11:30 p.m.-8:00 a.m. with 30 minute break 
  • Report directly to Residential Supervisor regarding any issues or concerns 
  • If calling in late or calling out of work, do so with at least 4 hours notice. Make sure that staff members log this information and also make sure that your Residential Supervisor knows 
  • Make sure that residents are supervised and monitored at all times 
  • Follow resident’s daily schedule exactly as described 
  • Supervise and participate in resident’s daily scheduled activities 
  • Manage crisis/emergency situations according to outlined Bridge policies and procedures in the Mental Health Technician Manual
  • Work with Residential Supervisors and Residential Director in planning and implementing recreational/leisure time and life skills activities
  • Be assigned to a treatment team, attend monthly treatment team meetings, and work closely with the team on therapeutic issues regarding the residents assigned to that team
  • Complete daily point sheets, incident reports, be involved in resident level moves, conduct life skills assessments and work with therapists on treatment plans
  • Provide transportation and supervision to any resident when requested by a supervisor
  • Supervise resident preparation, delivery and cleanup of daily meals to the community
  • Follow procedures and guidelines regarding kitchen sanitation and food rotation
  • Screen belongings and give urine drug screens and Breathalyzer tests to new or returning residents immediately upon arrival in the facility 
  • Attend all in-service trainings offered. (Every staff member is required to attend all mandatory trainings and must accrue a minimum of 40 training hours per calendar year.

Third Shift Mental Health Technicians

  • Activate and monitor all security systems 
  • Remain awake and aware of what is going on throughout entire shift, which is from 11:30 p.m.-8:00 a.m. 
  • Perform bed checks every 15 minutes, routine safety checks and report any problems immediately to supervisor 
  • Complete paperwork and other assignments when instructed by supervisor


  • High School Diploma or 1 year prior experience working with troubled teens in a secured facility or in recovery with at least two years free of drugs/alcohol and a desire to work with troubled teens and have the ability to set and maintain appropriate rules and limits, the ability to handle crisis/emergency situations, have mature and responsible work habits and are able to work in a professional setting.
