Job Description

The Director of Educational Technology, also known as EduTech or EdTech, is the position responsible for the combined use of physical hardware, software, and educational theory and practice to facilitate learning. This position is responsible for management and oversight of the creation and usage of technological processes linked to educational resources to help improve students’ academic performance, bringing learners, teachers, and technical means together in an effective way. This position oversees the monitoring and compliance of electronic assessments and analyzes metrics and performance outcomes for the students and staff of Fairwold Academy and other educational programs assigned by the Executive Director. The position spearheads the development and sustainability of virtual education across all educational programs. This position supervises a team of content specialists, plans and conducts professional development based on assessed building and/or teacher needs. Position functions as a liaison between Educational Programs and the Instructional Technology Department to increase efficiencies of educational technology and maximize resources. The Director of Technology is a 12-month position who reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Studies, evaluates, and with the Executive Director, develops an educational technology plan for the adoption of new technology instruction materials, methods and programs and assists with the purchase recommendations of computer hardware, software and other instructional technology tools across educational programs.
  • Develops budget plans for education technology across programs for maximum resource efficiency.
  • Manages a team of certificated educational professionals that develop standards-based virtual curriculum materials and trainings.
  • Collaborates with school leaders and develops an educational technology program aligned with state core curriculum content standards and educational goals and objectives.
  • Works cooperatively with professional staff in planning and implementing the effective use of instructional technology across the curriculum.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of the educational programs’ technology in-service education program for the instructional staff.
  • Manages the online implementation of all standardized and benchmark testing and assessments; compiles reports and tracks performance metrics.
  • Observes, evaluates, and reviews the performance of teachers, support staff, and other staff assigned.
  • Supports Special Education compliance by collecting, analyzing and reporting the effectiveness of assistive technology use by students and staff.
  • Provides leadership in the development of policies related to the use of instructional technology, computer software and online services.
  • Identifies training and implementation needs for school-based website and social media programs.
  • Assists with the research and writing process of educational technology grants.
  • Engages in continual learning to deepen content and pedagogical knowledge in technology integration and current and emerging technologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding instructional technology.
  • Advanced knowledge of the current literature, research-based practices, trends and developments in the field of instructional technology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Pennsylvania student computer competency requirements, including electronic standardized assessments and state-mandated testing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the appropriate uses of technology for instruction in various subject areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer technology, multiple hardware platforms, network architecture and cabling techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multimedia, telecommunications, and popular software packages used for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
  • General knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional standards and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Routine school environment. Employee may be involved in de-escalating student behaviors using mandatory approved techniques.
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens; may transport students in agency in accordance with PA Department of Education and Department of Transportation requirements and school and PHMC procedures.
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain, play yards and school grounds.
  • Ability to move rapidly, forward, backward and laterally.
  • Physical capacity to lift, move and position a student up to age 21 who may weigh 150 pounds or more with the assistance of other properly training personnel.
  • Ability to independently utilize routine office equipment.
  • Ability to independently travel outside of school hours as determined by administration.

Performance Requirement:

  • Manage all technology software subscriptions and contracts across all educational programs; monitor and report student and staff usage metrics for budgetary and curriculum decisions.
  • Maintain annual technology hardware and device audits in tandem with the IT department, recommending hardware sourcing and procurement and creates an annual educational technology budget for all educational programs.
  • Assess programs’ educational technology and develops an educational technology strategic plan with the Executive Director.
  • Assist program directors with private academic license requirements of teaching staff in the virtual programs.
  • Supervise a team of content-based specialists to ensure that all virtual instruction meets state-mandated curriculum standards in all core subject areas and compliance for credit recovery courses.
  • Manages all processes, trainings, securities, and compliance for on-line state standardized testing and other benchmark tests; creates student performance reports.
  • Develops quarterly metrics reports to support the Special Education Departments for assistive technology across programs.
  • Contributes to application writing and implantation of all technology-based funding; monitors the use of funding.
  • Assists program directors with ongoing development needs for school website, social media, and other web-based programs that include students and staff interface.
  • Performs related duties, special assignments, and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Education with content certification or related field. Advanced educational degree preferred.
  • K-12 Principal certification and Instructional II Certification required; Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Technology (EdTech) Specialist certification preferred.
  • 10 years’ relevant experience in a school leadership position and supervision of educational staff.
  • Five years’ experience managing school-wide or district-wide initiatives, curriculum, instructional, and virtual learning projects.
  • Three years’ relevant experience and evidence of successful implementation of virtual educational programs or instructional technology.
  • Three years’ experience in special education or alternative education.
