Job Description

Assist in the implementation of daily activities under the guidance of the Activities/Recreational Coordinator.

Report to: Activities/Recreational Coordinator

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and encouraging age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
  • Maintaining a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
  • Ensuring children are learning positive behaviors and providing guidance.
  • Keeping records relating to child care.
  • Working with parents to help children progress towards educational and behavioral goals.
  • Assist in the implementation of daily activities under the guidance of the Family Service Coordinator.
  • Maintain relationship with mothers in order to communicate children’s needs and behaviors.
  • Participate in weekly children’s services staff meetings/ and or weekly Supervision with Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of cultural differences among children who are served by the program.
  • Ability to assist and maintain children with their hygiene.
  • Ability to monitor children for health, behavioral and emotional concerns.
  • Ability to provide children with age-appropriate instruction.
  • Ability to work with children parents to ensure that children are learning and socializing during parent and child/children time together.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position and have an understanding of the childhood development process.
  • Strong understanding of stages of childhood development.
  • Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children.

Qualification:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, or the human services field
  • Five years experience related to the care and development of children.

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

  • This position is classified as salaried non-exempt in accordance to FLSA standards.
