The program aide is responsible for the support of ongoing daily activities and the direct therapy with children enrolled in the Center’s daily C.O.R.E. Program. This position reports to Assistant Director, C.O.R.E. This is temporary 3-4 month position, with potential for permanent role.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises clients to ensure safety
  • Interacts with clients in nurturing and respectful way
  • Implements the Center for Autism’s clinical philosophy by emphasizing the importance of individualized assessment and treatment planning
  • Understands and interprets a client’s communicative intent and respond to it by intervening based on the child’s communication
  • Initiates and maintains a shared experience with a client
  • Maintains effectiveness in response to various situational demands
  • Provides breaks for Mental Health Therapists
  • Set-ups and cleans-up including cooking, sensory and art materials
  • Organizes, maintains and keeps the kitchen, laundry and classroom area orderly
  • Prepares sensory and visual support activities in collaboration with visual support staff
  • Conducts weekly shopping to purchase groceries and other essentials needed for program (when scheduled)
  • Maintains supplies for first aid kits
  • Requests necessary supplies
  • Drives the van as needed to support program
  • Supports staff in program rooms when needed
  • Performs other job-related duties in area of responsibility as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Employee must have the physical ability to lift children, play on the floor, and run with/after children.  Must be able to comfortably perform a series of flexibility exercises, move (repeatedly) from a standing to kneeling position and back, bear weight on each knee, and lift/carry approximately 1/3rd of their body weight.

Education Requirement:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Act 33 & 34 clearance
  • Ability to pass Driving Record Check
