The Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP) Media and Communications Specialist will coordinate the timely dissemination of public health advertising materials to media outlets, maintain ongoing communication with partner media agencies, and coordinate feedback and approval processes on campaign creative in partnership with Division leadership. They will work directly with program heads and staff to finalize budgets, develop marketing plans that reflect an understanding of communities of color and other historically disinvested communities, choose advertising media, organize schedules, and evaluate media impact.

Specific Activities: 

The CDIP Media Specialist will accomplish the following:

  • Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of all program paid-media campaigns with various partners, including funders, contractors, media buyers and research facilitators.
  • Provides technical assistance on communication and marketing research and evaluation to internal and external groups and prepares preparation materials for meetings, briefings, peer calls, etc.
  • Oversees project management of all team collateral and promotional needs including scope creation, planning, requirements gathering, budgeting, timeline, and spec development.
  • Creates several strategic communication documents including infographics, media impression trackers, requests for proposals and scopes of work.
  • Facilitates communication alignment, brand enforcement, sustainability, cultural-sensitivity, language access and low-literacy formatting in all communication materials.
  • Works with Division content experts and web designer in planning, curating and growing consumer websites and social media accounts.
  • Supervise any interns with Get Healthy Philly focused on social media
  • Works closely with the Nutrition and Physical Activity Program Manager, Tobacco Policy and Control Program Manager, Manager of Community Partnerships, Injury Prevention Program Manager, and the Division Director for Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, public health, or a related area. A Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years agency or non-profit communications management experience.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills in managing dynamic team structures and navigating complex bureaucracies.
  • Strong self-initiative and ability to assert skillset to achieve best product(s).
  • Experience in healthcare / public health communications preferred.


  • $55,000-60,000
