Conduct substance use assessments in Spanish/English for participants on bail and in custody who are referred by the courts, Defender Association or other criminal justice partners.

Responsibilities: are to include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct substance use assessments in Spanish/English for participants on bail and in custody who are referred by the courts, Defender Association or other criminal justice partners.
  • Collect participant information from supporting criminal justice agencies/partners including the Philadelphia Prisons, Defender Association and Adult Probation and Parole Dept. and treatment providers
  • Determine appropriate level of care utilizing the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)
  • Write assessment summaries and coordinate funding authorization and participant placement.
  • Conduct assessment updates and/or reevaluations as needed throughout the various forensic venues i.e. prisons, courts, etc.
  • Complete at least 32 assessments for participants on a monthly basis.
  • Collaborate with treatment funding organizations (CBH, BHSI) as well as a network of treatment providers who are part of the FIR network of providers

Skills:

  • Must have working knowledge of substance use/dependence and mental illness.
  • Must be able to work independently and possess excellent verbal and written skills as well as computer word processing skills.
  • Certification in American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) required or able to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Motivational interviewing techniques and skillset or able to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Should also possess working knowledge of the DSM-V
  • Should have working knowledge of Philadelphia area Behavioral Health provider network.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish; at least 80% of time will be utilized completing assessment for Spanish Speaking participants.

Experience:

  • Must have 4 or more years working with substance using population.
  • 1-2 years’ experience conducting behavioral health assessments.
  • Preference given to those with experience working with criminal justice clients
  • Should also have experience working with persons diagnosed with mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.
  • Current American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) certification recommended.

Salary:

  • Commensurate with education and experience.

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

  • This position is classified as salaried non-exempt in accordance to FLSA standards.
