The Advocacy Institute (Ai), an initiative of Health Promotion Council (HPC) and Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) is a youth empowerment program with a mission to empower youth of Philadelphia to make sustainable community changes through policy, community, and media advocacy. The Advocacy Institute is looking for a part-time (up to 15 hours/week) Teaching Assistant. This position will work directly with Advocacy Institute students going through the #RealTalkTobacco program, under the supervision of the Advocacy Institute Coordinator. This position will need to be available Tuesdays from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Other hours can be arranged as availability allows. This TA role will help to co-facilitate the #RealTalkTobacco cohort for Fall 2019, and help with coordinating activities for the Advocacy Institute Alumni Network.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively lead programs and events planned through Advocacy Institute, serving as a leader and positive role model for participants.
  • Encourage and facilitate youth engagement activities, including small group discussions, learning games, and tobacco prevention and education interactive activities.
  • Contribute to planned activities by sharing appropriate personal experiences and discoveries about how to be successful.
  • Coordinate events and engage youth to attend Advocacy Institute Alumni Network meetings and events.
  • Assist with program planning and implementation for cohorts and alumni.
  • Meet with AI Coordinator for training, planning, and receive supervision.

  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must be willing to speak in front of groups and work with high school age-youth
  • Must be passionate about making a difference
  • Must keep a clean and professional social media presence (includes all social media)

Experience:

  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Must live a smoke-free, drug-free lifestyle
  • Looking for candidates who have experience with and are passionate about policy, tobacco or substance use prevention, advocacy, health justice, or related topics.

Education Requirement:

  • Completed high school
