Job Snapshot

Job Description

The PIHN program provides assessment and referrals, emergency housing, supportive service and transitional housing. Equipped with new skills and relationships, 92% of our families do not return to shelter programs after their PIHN experience. We offer a safe and child-friendly alternative to more chaotic public shelter settings, allowing families to remain intact. Because we are small, we accommodate intact couples, single father households, adolescent boys, as well as single women with children. We strongly emphasize taking a holistic approach to rebuilding from homelessness. PIHN has proven to serve as a catalyst for neighborhood and city wide initiatives. The VISTA will help people overcome poverty by empowering community members and facilitating institutionalized enhancement to our organization which includes an outcome measurement of those being served. The VISTA members will be charged with expanding the capacity of PIHN’s volunteer programs beyond the shelter hosting assignments (meal preparation and hosting) to a skill-based volunteer program to staff the anti-poverty aspects of PIHN’s work. This would be accomplished by mobilizing corporations and individuals interested in supporting PIHN’s work through in-kind donations and service hours, as well as assisting PIHN in its second year of outcome measurement focusing on longer term outcomes beyond moving people into stable, manageable housing situations.
