Job Description

This full time position is in the Philadelphia Department of Public Health AIDS, Activities Coordinating Office, HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Unit. The position will report to the AACO Lead Epidemiologist and will work closely with HIV/AIDS surveillance program manager in analyzing and disseminating HIV/AIDS prevalence and incidence data.  Collaboration with other epidemiologic staff in the Philadelphia Department of Public Health is also required as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating and managing data collected by the AACO Surveillance Unit as directed by the HIV/AIDS program manager or the Medical Director, AACO
  • Collaborating with the AACO Medical Director and surveillance staff on CDC funded surveillance projects.
  • Analyzing data and preparing summaries of data analyses as directed, including reports, manuscripts, and presentations, which could include tables, graphs and maps
  • Contributing to Not in Care (NIC) case identification and investigation through database development, data entry, data analysis and other projects as directed by the HIV/AIDS program manager or the Medical Director, AACO
  • Support epidemiologic needs of all program areas, as determined by the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Program.
  • Prepare written reports, documents, and participate in grant writing related to the AACO Surveillance Unit.
  • Presenting analytic findings in various settings, including AACO, community, state, or national meetings as directed.
  • Contributing to the development of interventions to reduce HIV disease transmission or improve access to care
  • Coordinate AACO planning activities and service provision with other City and non-city agencies, including the School district and Community based organizations
  • Represent AACO and Philadelphia Department of Public Health at local, regional, state and national professional meetings and conferences as directed by the HIV/AIDS program manager or the Medical Director, AACO
  • Help assure that the activities of the AACO HIV/AIDS Surveillance Unit are in accord with other local, state and federal response plans, and with appropriate local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Review and evaluate technical reports, planning documents and incorporate into current AACO surveillance activities and City plans.

Skills:

  • Experience with data management and analytic software such as MS Access, EPI-INFO, SPSS, SAS, STATA and/or ArcView

 Experience:

  • At least one year of experience as an epidemiologist in an academic, public, or private setting.

Education Requirement:

  • MPH, Epidemiology or related field
  • Completion of a Master’s Degree with a major in Epidemiology or a related  Commensurate with experience.

Salary:

  • Commensurate with education and experience.
